capriciousness and whims

God knows why I become so superstitious and whimsical whenever I start a new phase in my acads. Yesterday I washed my room completely ** and everything was immaculate and set to order. Everytime i do this, I hope that it will lead to a fresh start for my waning academic life.

But just a few hours after the auspicious start, I recognized that my futile efforts went in vain. The class of DRC revealed bare facts about my lassitude in the student life. Meanwhile, my wingies*** were expecting a good scores in GRE. But everything went wrong for them last night itself when i was in deep sleep. One of my neighbours had insomnia due to tension and cancelled his test. He is very impulsive by nature and today morning he wasted Rs 6000( = $140 ) by foregoing his effects. Possiibly his action must have invigorated apprehensions in the minds of three other wingies and two of them ended up cancelling their test scores?(after giving it --thats really crazy). One of them was even fully prepared to join a good univ in US of A.

May God give mental strength to these guys as well as me !!! Amen

Good Night

Classes are soporific !!! I miss Durga Puja !!! Movies = Max Masti

Classes are soporific. Whether its our favourite DRC doing tantrums infront of the "green"-board or CC showing her dull slides, dancing gracefully with artful movements of her hand, inside Raman Audi while taking the symbolic logic class, lectures have been always somniferous for me.
After rejuvenating myself during the full period of the great Durga Puja, watching about 30 English movies and a few Bengali ones too!!) . I watched all those English movies that I had missed or better say always avoided. Shawshank Redemption, Sleepless in Seattle, A Beautiful Mind, Pretty Woman, Troy, Mission Impossible and A Few Good Men are some of the better ones that I saw. From childhood, I had an aversion to English movies, Jurassic Park, Anaconda and Titanic being the only ones I have seen in a theatre ever. Infact except, Bridge on River Kwai , I had never watched English movie on television before. So a sudden interest spurted inside me to watch english movies and I foyund them really gripping.

I have my class now. So bye for now !!!

Lost in this world - Don't Agree

Trying to chase my parent's dream, I have tripped over and hurt myself. What did I aim for in my life ? Nah, nothing !!! That sucks !
I always went by what my parents told me to do so ... first, when was a kid in the fifh / sixth grade, they told me that IIT is the best place to join after school. But now that I 'm in IIT and in my final year, I can't find my way past it. My parents also are confused about what they want with me.
So I'm sad ...

Astigmatism of Indian leaders in the 50-90s

It is often said that India,Japan as well as China were at the same level when India got its independence. India had got its indepence from 200 years of British rule, Japan had been war devasted and the position of China was also no good. But now the story is completely different.. China has risen as a phoenix from its ashes to become a great economic giant which is seriously giving the United States a run for its money. Japan's economy moved up by leaps and bounds to become the second largest economy of the world and the Indian economy until recently was nowhere in picture.

So what reasons can be attributed to this vast difference :-
Firstly, Indian people failed to realize the benefits of their independence. The Indian mindset which is much different from the mindset of Chinese and Japanese people. Only a handful of Indian did have the urge to become the best, and they America as the place where they could satiate their dreams. This is where the Indian politicians could have led from the front, but they were busy reaping profits by victimising the state machinery.
Secondly, a feeling of nationality lacks in the Indian minds. Japanese people have the greatest urge to make their country the best in all fields. This urge to excel makes the Japanese the most hardworking people of the world.
Did the Indian political aspersions about polarization in the world which led to the formation of the NAM keep India away from the help of Global Superpowers ? India took loans from America and yet did not support its policy. This definitely resulted in American anguish which led to strangled relations for about three decades.
Was India too much of involved with its small neighbours without looking at the global scenario ? The policy makers failed to realize the importance of good international relations, the investments from other countries. Many companies like the IBM, Coca Cola closed their Indian ancillaries when India declared itself as socialist nation and shun capitalist nations and businesses.

So where did China differ from India as it also a Communist nation. Firstly, apart from the Korea War and Indian War, China had always kept away from terrorism and attacks. Secondly, Chinese people had a fear factor in their minds. The Chinese goverment had a very high influency on the freedom of speech of the people. India was its casual best on this issue. This restriction helped the fear factor in Chinese people thrust upon them to work hard.

Shouldn't u a-GRE-e : A plebiscite for Kashmir : The Indian Perpective

The eden of pre-independence India has turned into a war ravaged state. The cause of fight between two nations has changed the heaven into a battlefield for two nations which are turning towards nuclear weapons for their security. An apocalypse is sure to be seen if the issue of kashmir is not resolved soon enough.
The current discussions (so called high level ones) ongoing between India and its adversary Pakistan( being overlooked indirectly by the Big Brother of all nations) do ponder over the issues related to the sharing of the state of Kashmir. Why does any one not talk about the wishes of Kashmiri people themselves.
The Indian stance on the issue: Pakistan should first stop the militant infiltration and then the peace talk should begin. Secondly the king of erstwhile Kashmir state, Maharaja Hari Singh had himself decided to join India. These two stands are vague and illogical because:
Firstly, according to reports most of the militants are Kashmiri people trained in Pakistani militancy camps. These people take up arms and so they are called terrorists. So, fighting for the independence of one's own country is called "Terrorism" or Miltancy. So by the same logic, Sardar Bhagat Singh and Subash Chandra Bose were terrorists too !!
Secondly,The Indian logic that goes on with the occupation of Kashmir is that Maharaj Hari Singh signed the accord for merging of kasmir with the indian Federal republic( this was done in haste as the combined forces of Pakistan and China had attacked upon Kashmir in 1948 and maharaja hari Singh had no other options!!)

The main reason why Kashmir has become a hotspot is its importance as a strategic military hold which is being avoided in all the peace talks.

So why should India agree for a plebiscite in Kashmir.
Firstly, both India and pakistan have now become nuclear powers and the subcontinent, being in the state of constant tension, may become a nuclear flashpoint.
Secondly, why should Indian Government waste much of its financial and time concentrating on the protection of kashmir. The cause of militancy in Kasmir as well as rest of India is the militancy due the Kashmir dispute. Better concetrate upon welfare issues as well as economic issues( both financially and temporally)
Thirdly, why should India bear the brunt of Al Qaeda and similiar organizations only because of its domination of Kashmir.
Fourthly, every state like kashmir should have right of self- determination rather than miltary domination.

Summing up, a plebscite in Kashmir should bring a lot of peace in the war ravaged subcontinent.
What do you say ? Please comment ..

A SWOT analysis about me ... you should a-GRE-e

Well from my last blog, I have lost track of my main of writing blogs( using the words learnt from Barron's book -- but blogs are damn interesting that I have to forget my own title)

So why the term "SWOT" ?

SWOT analysis is a business management technique(strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats to a company)

STRENGTHS

  • A pretty strong brain( as far as I think).
  • A good heart.
  • Always a good motive in mind.
  • Ability to make strong friends.
  • A very good planner.
WEAKNESS
  • A very poor memory.
  • A very high threshold level for making friends , poor interpersonal skills(not goood enough communication power / networking - According to a Applied organizational psychology - 60 % of the successful managers are successful mainly of " Networking" and a small 20 % are successful because of their "Effectiveness".)
  • Weak in will power/decison making.
  • A poor physique.
  • Shyness with strangers ( mostly girls).
  • Rarely serious.
OPPURTUNITIES
  • With a strong brain under my head ... I get a lot of plans and ideas (creative and crazy enough) good enough for research stuff/management.
  • A good heart ensures that end will be good.

THREATS

  • With the current low levels of memory and physique, sure to face problems in near future.
  • Will power low levels will cause failure ... will certainly increase after failure
  • Level of seriousness can cause problem.
Any comments ? Do you find conflicting than what you know about me ... the oldie goldie Savya

Why I can't a-GRE-e ? The turning of Success

Presently I am going through a gloomy phase of my life during my internship in IBM Research Lab. There seem to be many oppurtunities ahead of me but I can't decide my way out.

Mugging the wordlists is necessary for GRE as well as CAT but Barron's book simply sucks. I don't know what my parents expect of me ( the only thing i know that they want me to be successful) .

Lets dive deep into the definition of success?

  • Is it that you lead a satisfied life ?
  • Is it that you are well approved of among your circles ?
  • Is it that you are respected by your own people, your family ?
  • Is it that you will are remembered long after your body is not there ?

I feel that a combination of all four with an optimum mixture is necessary.

What is the use of success if you are not happy ? What is the use of success if you don't have good relationships with your friends ? What is the use of success if your own son doesn't respect you when he grows up ? What is the use of success if people don't remember you after your own death ?

Was Mahatma Gandhi successful ... Probably yes and no both ?
Yes because he earned a lot of respect , name and fame for the things he did selflessly ?
No, i feel because did his his own son respect him enough ? As far as history tell us , his son had moral conflicts with Gandhi. Whether his son was wrong or not doesn't count, Our Mahatma couldn't impress his son .

Enough of philosophy .. gudnight from Savya

starting to aGREe ...

Friends like Samir have abashed me enough by preparing for the GRE in much advance and flaring their huge vocabulary and memory time and again. So finally I gave up and started to aGREe that I miust prepare for the Graduate Record(I call it Recruitment) Exam as it results in a much better stipend than an Indian IT Company job.

Basically three good things can happen to an IITian

  • A few lucky ones do become entrepreneurs nowdays (most coveted )

·Admission to a good college in USA

·Admisiion to IIM A/B/C

·Job in Microsoft/Trilogy etc..

If (and only if) an IITian has achieved one of these, then he is acknowledged to a successful IITian.

So finally I start off with my GRE preparation … mugging the word lists from Barron … abstaining from the worldly pleasures in office of IBM IRL, New Delhi at night to the much abhorred book which every one accedes to use … as if has been accord between the compilers of the book and the organization conducting the GRE.

I am now starting to go deep into the abyss after abstaining a long time from this silly Barron which eludes any intelligent approach to vocab increase like Norman Lewis but a rather manual memorization ………….

Good Night to all..
